Dead Space Remake, как следует из названия, является ремейком или переизданием самой первой игры серии, положившей начало целой франшизе. Это научно-фантастический хоррор на выживание с видом от третьего лица.
Действие происходит в 26 веке на космическом горнодобывающем корабле “Ишимура”, а на роль протагониста выбран Айзек Кларк. Инженер получает сигнал бедствия от врача Николь Бреннан (и по совместительству своей девушки), прилетает к звездолету на ремонтном челноке “Келлион” и узнает, что экипаж был перебит некроморфами. После этого он пытается докопаться до правды, параллельно сражаясь с мутировавшими ожившими трупами и пытаясь сохранить рассудок после всех увиденных ужасов. Сюжет, по традиции, раскрывается через аудиозаписи и беседы с немногочисленными выжившими людьми.
Dead Space Remake был воссоздан с нуля. Новая современная графика со всеми актуальными технологиями. Звук стал более объемным. Сражения с монстрами, как и в оригинале, обильно сопровождаются кровью и мясом. Тварям можно и нужно отрезать конечности, чтобы одолеть их. Чудовища обзавелись дополнительными слоями плоти, костями и сухожильями. Путешествие по отсекам зловещего судна теперь происходит без подгрузок. Мир игры стал не только бесшовным, но и более открытым, а локации обзавелись множеством дополнительных деталей. На них отныне порой происходят рандомные события благодаря введению системы “Intensity Director”. Она может выбирать и запускать сотни ивентов в уже посещенных ранее местах, благодаря чему встречи с врагами происходят не только по сюжетным скриптам.
